To disable
the Windows Key
Some people just wish the Windows Key would go away! If you're one of
these people who hit it by mistake from time and time and wish it weren't
there, here's a tip that will allow you to disable the Windows Key:
- Click Start and then click the Run command.
- In the Run dialog box, type regedt32 in the Open text box. Click
OK.
- In the Registry Editor, drill down to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ControlKeyboard Layout registry
hive. Make sure that you have clicked on the Keyboard Layout node so that
it is selected.
- Click the Edit menu, point to New and click on Binary Value. Right
click on the New Value #1 entry in the right pane of the Registry Editor
and click Rename. Change the name to Scancode Map.
- Double click on the Scancode Map entry. Type in the following for the
value data: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00
00 00 00
- Log off and then log back on.
The Windows key is now dead as a doornail!
